FAQ's
Welcome to our FAQ, we are so happy to have you here and as a client.
We have tried to answer the most common questions.
GENERAL
WHERE DO I START?
Start by getting in touch with us and telling us a little about your project.
Plans are helpful if you have them, but they don’t need to be final. We can begin with architectural drawings, a moodboard, photographs of the space or simply a conversation about what you’re looking for.
From there, we’ll establish the scope, likely programme and next steps.
DO YOU ONLY MAKE KITCHENS
No. Alongside kitchens, we can design and make joinery throughout the home - including pantries, utility rooms, boot rooms, bars, studies, dining joinery and freestanding pieces.
Where several spaces are being considered together, we can develop them as one coherent joinery package.
DO YOU WORK WITH INTERIOR DESIGNERS + ARCHITECTS?
Yes.
We can work directly with a client or as part of a wider project team alongside architects, interior designers, contractors and other specialists.
We’re happy to take responsibility for the kitchen design in full, develop an existing design direction, or work collaboratively with your appointed designer.
HOW LONG DOES A BOON KITCHEN TAKE?
Every project is different.
Timing depends on the scale and complexity of the design, material lead times, our workshop programme and the readiness of your site.
We’ll agree an indicative programme with you as part of the project process, but because our kitchens are made rather than taken from stock, we recommend involving us as early as possible.
WHERE ARE BOON KITCHENS MADE?
Our kitchens and joinery are made by our workshop team in West London.
Keeping design and making closely connected means details can be resolved properly throughout the process rather than simply passed from a design studio to a third-party manufacturer.
DESIGN + PRICING
HOW DOES PRICING WORK?
Every Boon project is individually quoted according to its scope, dimensions, materials, finishes and installation requirements.
Your quotation will set out what is included in your project. Unless specifically stated, items such as appliances, plumbing, electrical work, tiling, decoration, building works, structural work, flooring, waste removal and third-party trades are not included.
Our quotations are valid for 30 days.
CAN THE PRICE CHANGE AFTER I RECEIVE MY QUOTE?
Your quotation is based on the information available to us at the time it is prepared.
If the design, dimensions, materials, site conditions, supplier costs, delivery requirements or installation scope subsequently change, we may need to revise the quotation.
We’ll discuss any material changes with you before proceeding.
WHEN IS THE DESIGN FINAL?
Before anything enters production, we’ll ask you to approve the final design information.
This is an important stage: dimensions, layouts, materials, finishes and key details should all be agreed before manufacture begins.
Once a design has been approved and production has started, changes may not always be possible and can have implications for cost and programme.
CAN I MAKE CHANGES DURING A PROJECT?
Yes, particularly during the design stage.
We expect a kitchen to evolve as it is developed. Once the design has been signed off and manufacture has begun, however, changes become more difficult.
Where a requested change affects drawings, materials, manufacturing, delivery or installation, we’ll let you know about any additional cost or programme implications before carrying it out.
YOUR KITCHEN
DO YOU SUPPLY APPLIANCES?
Appliances are not automatically included in a Boon quotation unless they are specifically listed.
We can design the kitchen around your chosen appliances and coordinate the relevant dimensions and requirements as part of the design process.
DO YOU ORGANISE PLUMBING AND ELECTRICS?
Not unless this has specifically been included within your agreed scope.
Plumbing, electrical work, tiling, decorating, building work, structural work and other third-party trades are generally separate from Boon joinery work.
We will, however, provide the information needed for your wider project team to coordinate these elements with the kitchen.
WHAT NEEDS TO BE READY BEFORE INSTALLATION?
The space needs to be sufficiently complete and ready for our team to install the joinery safely and accurately.
We’ll coordinate requirements with you or your contractor ahead of installation, including access, dimensions and any relevant work that needs to have been completed beforehand.
If site conditions differ materially from the information we were originally given, this can affect both installation and cost.
DO YOU INSTALL THE KITCHEN?
Yes. Where installation forms part of your quotation, our team will deliver and fit the BOON joinery.
Your quotation will confirm exactly what is included.
WHAT ABOUT WORKTOPS?
This depends on the project.
Where worktops, stone or specialist surfaces form part of our scope, this will be clearly identified within the quotation. Where they are being supplied by a third party, we’ll coordinate the relevant dimensions and junctions with them.
WILL NATURAL MATERIALS LOOK EXACTLY LIKE THE SAMPLE?
No — and that is part of their character.
Timber, veneer, stone and other natural materials inherently vary in grain, colour, pattern and texture. Samples are therefore representative rather than an exact prediction of every finished surface.
We select materials carefully and consider variation as part of the overall composition.
CAN YOU MATCH AN EXISTING COLOUR OR FINISH?
Often, yes.
We can work with specified paint colours, material references and existing finishes where appropriate. The exact result can vary depending on material, substrate, light and application, so we’ll advise where samples or approvals are needed.
WHAT HAPPENS IF SOMETHING CHANGES ON SITE?
Tell us as early as possible.
Our drawings, quotation and manufacture rely on the information and measurements agreed for the project. Changes to walls, floors, services, dimensions or surrounding construction can affect the joinery.
If those changes require us to redesign, remake or alter something, there may be additional cost and programme implications.
WHAT ISN'T INCLUDED UNLESS IT'S IN MY ORIGINAL QUOTE
As a general rule: if it isn’t specifically included in your quotation, don’t assume that it forms part of BOON’s scope.
Typical exclusions may include:
Appliances
Plumbing
Electrical work
Tiling
Decoration
Building and structural work
Flooring
Waste removal
Third-party trades
We’d rather make the boundaries clear at the beginning than leave room for surprises later.
I'm ready to talk about a project.
Send us whatever you have. Architectural plans, elevations, dimensions, photographs and moodboards are all useful, alongside an idea of your timing, location and intended scope. It doesn’t need to be perfectly resolved.
