Kitchen Designer
Part-time | 2 days a week
Reports to: Founder / Creative Director
The Role
BOON is looking for a creative Kitchen Designer to join our growing London studio. This is a design-led role for someone with a strong eye, good spatial instincts and an obsession with detail. You'll take a project from its initial architectural plans, references and moodboards and develop the creative design intent for the kitchen - considering layout, form, proportion, material, colour and detail. You won't be responsible for resolving every technical construction detail. Once the creative direction is approved, you'll work alongside our Technical Designer, who will translate the design into detailed production drawings for the workshop. We're looking for someone relatively early in their career who wants the opportunity to have real creative input and grow alongside a new kitchen company with ambitious plans to change what the category can look and feel like.
What you’ll do
Creative Design
- Take client briefs, architectural plans, references and moodboards and turn them into a clear kitchen design concept.
- Develop layouts that consider how people move, cook, gather and live within a space.
- Explore form, proportion, cabinetry, materials, finishes, colour and detailing.
- Apply Boon's design language across bespoke projects while allowing each kitchen to respond to its architecture and client.
- Produce design intent drawings, elevations, layouts and visualisations that clearly communicate the idea.
- Develop material and finish palettes and prepare samples for presentations.
- Refine designs through internal and client feedback until creative sign-off
Design Detail
- Think carefully about the moments that make a kitchen feel resolved: junctions, edges, radii, proportions, handles, plinths, worktops, shelving and transitions between materials.
- Understand Boon’s existing design language and find intelligent ways to evolve it.
- Develop new details and ideas that can feed back into the wider Boon product vocabulary.
- Maintain a high level of visual consistency across drawings, presentations and specifications.
Project Collaboration
- Work closely with the Creative Director / Founder through concept development and design reviews.
- Present and communicate design ideas clearly to the wider team and, where appropriate, clients.
- Hand approved creative designs over to the Technical Designer with clear design intent, dimensions, materials and key details.
- Review technical drawings to ensure the original creative intent has been maintained.
- Collaborate with the Workshop & Production Manager where manufacturing constraints require a creative solution.
- Visit sites, suppliers and the workshop where useful to understand the project in context.
Who We're Looking For
You might come from interior design, architecture, furniture, kitchens or spatial design. We're less interested in a conventional kitchen-design background than we are in finding someone with genuine creative instinct.
You'll ideally have:
- Around 2–5 years' experience in interior, architectural, furniture or kitchen design.
- A strong portfolio demonstrating taste, spatial thinking and attention to detail.
- Confidence reading architectural plans and elevations.
- The ability to translate references and moodboards into an original, coherent design.
- Strong drawing and visual communication skills.
- Good understanding of materials, colour, proportion and form.
- Working knowledge of relevant design software.
- Enough technical understanding to design intelligently, without needing to be a technical specialist.
- Curiosity about furniture, interiors, architecture, materials and making.
Above all, we're looking for a good eye. Someone who notices the difference between something that works and something that feels properly resolved.
